Leadership Principles: Sit on the Other Side

Leadership Quotes: Big Idea: What is it like to sit on the other side of you

One of the prime characteristics of effective leaders is the ability to be self-aware.  How are you as a leader impacting those in your purview?  This would be true for a father in the family, an HOA leader, a leader in the marketplace, as well as leaders within the local church.  While the major focus of any group is to fulfill the goals that are agreed upon within that organization.  However, so much of the accomplishment is based on the ability of the team to be connected to the goal and make it happen.  However, the opportunity for long-term involvement of the team is how the leader impacts the team.  Are you as a leader highly thought of, or are you a jerk that people prefer not to be around?  Are you focused on helping your team be successful, or are they there only for your success?  Many high-impact leaders share how their leadership changed when they better understood what it is like to be on the other side of them.  The Bible says no one knows the heart of man except God (I Kings 8:39). One of the ways to get insight is to see how you are being perceived.

Today:  Find someone in your organization that you trust and who will provide unfiltered feedback.  Create a safe space for them to share this feedback.  You will be amazed at how small changes in your leadership will have a large, long-term impact.   Keep asking for feedback as both you and your organization evolve.
