Leadership Principles: Deep Longings and Shallow Efforts

by | Oct 18, 2023

Leadership Quotes: Big Idea:  Most of us have deep longings, however, we often try to fill those deep longings through shallow efforts.  –Pastor Albert Tate

Pastor Tate shares that all of us need a safe place to lay our heads down (emotional safety).  We often use an unhealthy process to create the illusion of a safe place to find rest.  It can be through medication, sinful habits, illicit relationships, workaholism, or anything other than dealing with the depth of a need that we have. It is easy to make excuses for how we pursue, or ignore the resolution of our needs, rather than admit our needs and work to resolve them in a healing manner. Jeremiah 17:9, says The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked: who can know it?

Today: Be aware of a pattern or a habit of addressing an unrealized need in your life.  It can manifest itself in the temptation to sin, defense mechanisms, communication patterns, and inability to maintain long-term relationships, to name a few.  Find a close friend and discuss how you can address the shallowness of your response, and discover ways to go deep with the healthy desires God has placed in your heart.
