Growing Spiritually in 2024: Big Idea: Spiritual Growth is Relationship Growth

Too many of us treat our Spiritual growth as a task, a list to check off, something to be accomplished, rather than the enjoyment of a relationship out of which we may do a few things for or with God.   Men especially are mostly task and goal-oriented, so our natural inclination is to “do things” and expect that this is what God wants.   Many of us learned this at home – it took acting a certain way to gain our parents’ love, or at least that was our perception.  God is not like that – in Revelation 3:20, it says in part:  I stand at the door and knock.  If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in.   The only behavior described is to open the door to a relationship with God.

Today, however awkward it may be, let’s not focus on checking off our list of behaviors FOR God, let’s open the door to God and begin to more fully enjoy a relationship WITH God.
