Finishing Well – Big Idea
It is the quality, not the longevity of one’s life is what is important. Martin Luther King Jr
If you go to a local cemetery, between the birth and the death dates is a dash. The dash represents what you do between life and death. We don’t get to choose the circumstances in our lives, but we do get to choose how we will respond to those circumstances. The important thing is not to live long, but to live well. We should focus on the dash on the tombstone, rather than the dates. No matter how long we live, it is a vapor compared to eternity.
James wrote, you are a vapor that appears for a little while then vanishes away; James 4:14b.
Ask yourself: Where is my focus – the dates or the dash? What kind of a legacy am I leaving on the dash portion of my life – both here and in eternity? What is one small change of focus I can make to improve the value of the dash?
