Biblical Characteristics of Men: Be Strong

Act Like Men – I Corinthians 16:13–14

Be on the Alert, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let all you do be done in love.

Be Strong

In Joshua 1:9, “Be strong and courageous”. Strong is a relative word unless it is compared to something. Example: He had a dead lift of 450 pounds in the weight room. The number by itself does not mean much until you understand that only a very small percentage of men can accomplish this task. In Joshua, it marries the word “Strong”, with the word “Courageous”. Both focus on the active behavior of resisting something or engaging in something — according to the standard of God’s Word. In what area of my life do I need to be strong today? How does fear or complacency play a role on my response? Do I need to resist something, or actively and courageously engage in moving this forward?
