It is a crazy mixed-up world we live in. The once cherished values and morals that formed this great nation are under attack. Never in our country’s history have so many people tried to convince us that “man’s way is better than God’s way”.
During the Apostle Paul’s time there were similar anti-God movements permeating society. In his inspired words, Paul challenges all of us to remember that nothing can separate us from the love of God: “What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. Who is he that condemns? Christ Jesus, who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?”
He goes on to say, “As it is written: “For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.” No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” – Romans 8:31-40
We place the words “In God We Trust” on our currency, in various legal documents, and with some Presidential addresses, but presently find ourselves challenged about our faith when it comes to the practical application of God’s Holy Word in our daily living and laws.
For those believers under attack, aren’t we glad we can trust our omnipotent, omniscient, and all–loving God to never forsake us? This is the Apostle Paul’s whole argument in Romans 8:31-38. God, who demonstrated His love, knowledge, and power so definitively and tangibly, can also certainly be trusted to keep us victorious and safe from all dangers, external and internal. Furthermore, He who was willing to give the ultimate gift of His Son to die for us, “how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?” (Rom. 8:32). Will He allow anything or anyone to snatch us from His hands (John 10:28–29) after paying so dear a price?
While I totally support the lifestyle evangelistic approach when connecting with a secular culture, I also believe that too many Christians have rolled over and played dead when it comes to standing up for truth and righteousness. Let’s return to the values and faith that made our country great. When the deceivers of our day tell us that “change is necessary” let’s try and recall what the founding fathers identified on how they wanted this country to be governed. My friends don’t let the socialists and Constitutional reformers re-write our heritage and Constitution. A committed Christian isn’t going to allow a slick politician, eloquent educator, or wacked out Supreme Court tell us who God is and how we shall live. Amen.
