PRIEST RIVER, Id. – Throughout the summer months many pastors in the Inland Northwest concern that Sunday church attendance drops, no doubt because many of their members instead choose to slip out to one of many lakes, rivers, or streams with family and friends to enjoy God’s great creation first-hand. Starting this summer, they won’t have to choose – as Dr. Jim Grassi, an accomplished author, speaker, and chaplain will deliver a short but meaningful message on the water at the new Willows Bay Club Marina with local performer and musician Mr.Tommy Petrie handling the worship music part of the short service.

Dr. Grassi has taken his love of the outdoors and the word of God to deliver powerful messages and books on how Jesus frequently used platforms and parables like boating and fishing to connect with people who were either too busy or didn’t wish to attend the synagogues that might have been too far away from their home base.

While Grassi is very comfortable in more formal environments, he has established a valuable niche presenting God’s word to outdoorsmen along with his mission to assist churches in develop vibrant men’s ministry programs. His initial ministry was called “Let’s Go Fishing Ministries,” but is now more widely known as “Men’s Ministry Catalyst.”

“I strongly believe in the local church and that we all should try and attend church on a regular basis. But let’s face it, when summer rolls around many devout believers venture to the beautiful water resources found in this area,” said Grassi, a National Hall of Fame fisherman and a record-holding big game hunter.

Grassi’s vision for Church on the Water was made possible when he brought Hall of Fame Outfitter Billy Chapman Jr. of Anglers Inn International to the area. Chapman liked the region so much that he moved his business and family here as he and Grassi looked for a way to reach those who weren’t in church on Sunday but were on the water. Pastor Grassi hopes this concept will become a model for other recreational facilities to follow.

Like Grassi, Chapman is an innovative thinker, and recently reopened the Willows Bay Club Marina in Priest River, Idaho across from the Riley Creek Campground. Chapman’s company brings world-class service and fishing opportunities to the Pend Oreille River and lake.

Pastor Grassi will lead these services from July 7 thru August 25, and his words will be complemented by Petrie’s warm personality and soothing tone. “This service is designed for all ages and backgrounds. We hope those people camping along the banks to boaters, fishermen and jet skiers will join us,” Chapman said. “We just want folks to boat over and enjoy a nice service where they can dock or clip on to the floating line in our marina to hear a powerful message and some great music in a casual environment.”

The services are scheduled for Sundays from 10:30AM to 11:15AM. For those wishing to have more time with Pastor Jim or Tommy, they can come up to the shoreline café and receive a free hotdog, chili, and soda where the two men will welcome an opportunity to greet the audience. The public address system will carry the music and message across the water for everyone to enjoy.

Outlines of the songs and the talk will be provided to attendees by a jetboat attendant.
