Are Your Eyes Fixed on the Unseen?
“So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” – 2 Cor. 4:18
Sometimes when we talk about heaven, our unbelieving friends look at us like we’re talking about the Easter Bunny—like they can’t believe we really buy into “all that stuff”. We think, “If only they could understand that there is so much more to this life than what meets the eye. There is so much pain and sorrow in this life, but there’s also unimaginable hope waiting for them in Jesus…” But only God can open their eyes.
A friend shared the following poem with me. She wrote it for a friend she had been praying for over the years—a friend who is yet to see:
Follow Me
Where there is loss, there is gain.
Where there is pain, there is joy.
Where there is sorrow, there is hope.
Where there is nothing, everything awaits.
Two paths, side by side, but unseen.
Oh, how my heart longs for peace.
Yet, the ache of this world lingers on
Only to be quenched
When the two paths finally collide,
And the earth is bathed in silence.
At last a mournful song will cry out
And a trumpet will blow.
The darkness will be shattered by light
And the sky will crumble
With a mighty victorious roar.
Where will you be, beloved friend,
When all that ever was is no more,
When nothing becomes everything,
Sorrow turns to hope and joy is born of pain,
When everything that’s lost is gained?
And how long will you wait, Lord,
To rescue your weary?
How long will you hold fast my tears?
How many prayers will you gather
Before your mercy pours out at my feet?
I will walk the path before me,
The one that I can see,
Holding tight to the loss and the pain,
To the sorrow…and to nothing,
But a promise sealed with blood on a tree.
Oh, my beloved friend,
Truly there exists,
Two paths, side by side, but unseen.
Won’t you, please won’t you
Come follow me?

How I long for Christ’s return… How do people live without that hope? How empty to think we just come, do, and die. Let’s fix our eyes on our eternal hope and pray that God opens the eyes of our unsaved friends.
The Power of Truth:
“The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.” 2 Cor. 4:4
“…the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.” John 14:17
Suggestion for Prayer:
Pray for your unsaved friends.
